Craig James: Bashed “Right” out of the gate.

Craig James ESPN

"He always ran to the right, yuck yuck."

I’ve been slavishly following the Hoopshype Media Twitters page for updates on the whirlwind of NBA player movement and camp news taking place prior to the Christmas Day season openers. In the process the obvious liberal bias of the press, even those covering sports – it’s literally about 90% liberal according to periodic surveys (whereas it’s only about 28% in the country as a whole) – rears its ugly head.

First, it was all the Tim Tebow commentary, some of it legitimately clever and funny but others just downright hate-inspired. (One tweet went something like: “Let me get this straight, so God is helping Tebow win football games but he’s letting kids in Africa starve to death?” Wow, really?)

Then today, a guy named Gregg Doyel of CBSsports Ohio posted this gem on his Twitter page:

Craig James in the U.S. Senate makes as much sense as Craig James on my TV set. Which is to say, noneCraig James in the U.S. Senate makes as much sense as Craig James on my TV set. Which is to say, none.

Immediately I played one of my favorite games, called “Let me guess.”

So, let me guess: the fact that this guy is in the media and he is criticizing a Senate candidate means… let me guess: James is a Republican.

Bingo.

I mean it’s that obvious, folks. If James is a Democrat, this same guy Doyel would’ve been touting him as a viable candidate, not instantly bashing him. This phenomenon makes me want to root for James more than I would have before, just to shut up these knee-jerk, predictable, lackey idiots in the press.

Same goes for Tebow… I’m a Raiders fan so my inclination is to root against the Broncos, but I’ll be happy if they do well based on the media reaction to a player who wears his Christianity on his sleeve. Remember, with the American press, it’s not religion in general that’s bad, it’s only Christianity. When the NBA’s Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf refused to stand for the National Anthem because of his Muslim beliefs, the press had nothing negative to offer, pretty much the same as what they offered of the Mosques at Ground Zero: “Hey, he has every right to do it.” Thanks… for nothin’.
